FAQ

Frequently asked questions

1. What is a vision exactly?

"I want to become the greatest of all times", a statement of a young man in London reported in a journal is no real vision. It is more a rough, very unsharp big dream someone has. This kind of big dream is difficult to realise because it is so unsharp. Furthermore this big dream would be difficult to communicate to others. It sounds very ego centered, focused on the own person. It is not clear, if anybody else would benefit from that big dream.

A vision often starts with a clear big dream someone has, maybe in one sentence. Then it needs clear steps to go. Without clear steps great visions can remain a daydream for a whole life. The person with a vision, the visionary, can see his vision very clearly, others not.

2. Why such a focus on values?

In Europe there is a politician who had a big dream to get the top job in government. This was his big vision over years. But various people around him had doubts if he really would have the character, the values needed for this big vision.

Finally he got the job. Now it became obvious that he has a clear lack of values needed for this job and the situation got very, very dangerous for many people to say it with easy words.

Values are key for visions. Values are the foundation for visions. Values create new life in a vision.

3. How long does it take to realise a vision?

It depends on the type of your vision. It can take one year, several years or a decade or more. There is a time to realise a vision, but there is also a time before, the time only to think about a vision till the person makes a clear decision to realise that vision or not.

4. What about funding of a vision?

The realisation of a vision is surely not primarily dependant on a special funding. It depends strongly on the drive, the energy, commitment and communication a person puts into that vision. This question is maybe for a lot of people the thing to stop all, because they think without money I can do nothing. This is the biggest visions killer. This is not really true. A vision can be developed for instance with a small, easy job that covers your expenses and the rest of your time you can invest into the vision.

5. Are visions depending on the age of a person?

Surely not. Some people have a big dream at the age of 6 years. Sometimes this was the vision of a lifetime. Others realise their big dream in their fifties and use all their experiences they made before. In each case, it is a big help to have a diary and to make notes over the years.

6. Could you give an example for a vision from the beginning till the end?

We try to give an example, maybe a vision that sounds crazy when you hear it the first time. This is a bit of vision fiction now. After these few lines you will change your opinion.

A person could have the vision of 'Vertical agriculture', this means planting tomatoes, carrots and other vegetable vertically and not on existing fields.

This person, the visionary, can see this 'Vertical agriculture' very clearly before his eyes, others surely not. When he makes a decision to realise that big dream, the journey starts. He will brainstorm steps, will create a strategy, how to move on. If he is an artist, he will make sketches or tries to visualise what he wants to realise.

He will communicate this vision to others, will contact perhaps farmers or a university to learn more about agriculture, to know how, when and where he can start with a test 'Vertical agriculture'.

At this stage often comes the first shock, others might say "impossible, crazy, waste of time". The visionary will hear this, he will think about it and will perhaps find arguments why his vision is important. He will create a string of arguments to convince others. He will try to find partners or manufactorers to realise his vertical concept.

This stage is the point a lot of visionaries stop for ever or take a break. Finally he finds a manufactorer and a test 'Vertical agriculture' was a success. He will make photos, writes an article about and communicates the whole thing into the world.

General advice to start a vision

Start with an easy website created by your own

Best practice is to create a website about the vision. You can start with a cheap provider that will cost you not much. A website will teach you to use few words, to have a clear structure. The website is there also if you are near to loose faith into your vision. Also it is a first point you can refer to when speaking with others.

You can keep the domain name short and a bit more general, you will change the name later in most cases, the clearer your vision gets. Also start to learn basic HTML and look for an webeditor where you can access the source code easily.

This means you can change in a later stadium faster content. This was for the founder of this university the biggest help especially when you develop various things parallel. You can start with no meta-tags at all so that google will not scan the content too early.

If you have fear others will steal your content you can write things a bit more generally without too much details. But having a website is a big step. Because you automaticly will look at it more often and you will always find something to enhance. With this step you start the process of developing a vision.
